The Indian Premier League (IPL), over the years, has been a talent pool. Players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal have evolved drastically in their careers after performing in the cash-rich league. Similarly, former India opener Gautam Gambhir has identified a player who we all should watch out for in IPL 2020.
Meanwhile, this season will witness a sea of young cricketers – both Indian and overseas ply their trade in the cash-rich league. They will aim to make a mark for themselves. Among all, Gambhir has picked the young batsmen from the Caribbean, Nicholas Pooran.
Gambhir names one player to watch in IPL 2020
The former India cricketer feels Pooran is quite similar to that of Ab De Villiers. The southpaw has a range of shots which can make him a showstopper this season for Kings XI Punjab.
“For me, Nicholas Pooran is the young player I would like to watch in this IPL. We talk about AB de Villiers as a 360-degree player but Nicholas Pooran has all types of shots. He can play the reverse sweep, normal sweep and is capable of playing the big shots,” Gambhir said during a discussion on Star Sports’ chat show Cricket Connected.

Moreover, Gautam Gambhir feels that since Nicholas Pooran is playing under the guidance of Anil Kumble, it will impact a change in the batsmen. Incidentally, Kumble as a coach has a title under his name when he was the coach of Mumbai Indians back in 2013.
Moreover, Gambhir is also looking forward to watching Kumble’s performance as a coach in this edition of the IPL.
“So, such a player, when he plays under a coach like Anil Kumble, I have full confidence that Anil Kumble will be able to extract the best out of him. A great coach, who had won Mumbai Indians the title, I would want to see what he can do with the Kings XI.”
None the less, the Punjab based franchise will be in hunt of their first IPL title this season. The side is led by Karnataka batsmen KL Rahul and coached by Anil Kumble. The last time Punjab reached the finals was way back in 2014 where they emerged runners up.
