Former India player and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar is not a part of this year’s IPL commentary team. Which is why he’s been putting forward his views through news columns and other sources. In a recent Times Of India column, Sanjay has talked about the Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni.
The Thala is making his return to competitive cricket in this year’s IPL after last making an appearance for India in the 2019 World Cup. As we all know he retired on the 15th August announcing his retirement through an Instagram post.
Dhoni to take backseat for CSK – Sanjay Manjrekar
Sanjay Manjrekar has spoken about the fact that we should all expect MS Dhoni to take a backseat this season. Which means players like Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran will be finishing more games for the Chennai Super Kings side this season.

“I watched Dhoni as captain in that first game where Chennai lost five wickets and Dhoni ended up zero not out after facing just two balls. While more evidence is certainly needed, people should not be surprised if they see Dhoni the batsman take a back seat to allow Dhoni the captain to guide the team’s fortunes,” Manjrekar wrote in his column for The Times of India on Tuesday.
He further went on to praise Dhoni’s decision to pick the likes of Sam Curran, Lungi Ngidi in the playing XI against Mumbai Indians. As those players added a completely different element to the Chennai Super Kings side.
“Picking Sam Curran, (Lungi) Ngidi in the eleven and then promoting Curran and (Ravindra) Jadeja up the order to make a winning difference are all early signs of this. With a win against Mumbai, who has been their nemesis, Chennai start as clear favourites against Rajasthan,” he added.
MS Dhoni & Co will next take on Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 on September 25 as they aim to make a winning comeback.
