After a swashbuckling start to IPL 2020, Delhi Capitals have succumbed to pressure with three consecutive defeats. Sunrisers Hyderabad banked on David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha to post 219 which proved to be enough for Shreyas Iyer & Co.

In the second half, Sunrisers Hyderabad came out with a plan and implemented it to perfect to put Delhi Capitals off the pedal. Losing Shikhar Dhawan, Delhi tried to counter-attack bringing in Marcus Stoinis and Shimron Hetmyer – but it didn’t turn out to be fruitful.

Delhi Capitals lose three on a trot

Rashid Khan dominated the proceedings in the middle over finishing with figures of three for seven – the best bowling figures and economical one in the 13th edition of IPL so far. The big guns – Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer have failed to put up their hands in the second half of the tournament which has resulted in them ending in the wrong end.

Earlier in the day, David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha came out with a lot of intent. Delhi Capitals attacked early with Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada, but Saha rode his luck in the first couple of overs. Warner then thankfully decided to put on the gears.

Saha and Warner took Delhi by surprise with their assault. And the Shreyas Iyer-led side paid the price for offering pace on the ball and mainly dishing out a lot of slot balls. Birthday boy David Warner got a fifty off just 25 balls, becoming the only player this season to score a fifty in the powerplay.

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the game in powerplay – Shreyas Iyer

Wriddhiman Saha got his eye in and played some delightful shots. Sunrisers Hyderabad never took the leg off the pedal and they have finished with a total of 219 runs which was enough to put Delhi off the radar. Speaking at the end of the game, Shreyas Iyer admitted that they lost the game in the powerplays.

“We lost the game in the powerplay itself. Getting 70 runs in the first six overs was really commendable and the way they went after our bowlers was amazing. We need to have that strong and positive mindset. These losses are not going to put us down,” Iyer said.

Adding further, Shreyas Iyer stated that they are eyeing one more win from the remaining two games to seal the berth. However, Iyer said the defeats won’t bog the cricketers down and they will come back with a bang.

“We still have two games left but one win is really important, that’s what we are waiting for since the last three games. Back-to-back losses are definitely going to put us under the pump. The boys are really strong, really motivated and this loss is definitely going to motivate us,” Shreyas Iyer added.
