Rohit Sharma returned to play for Mumbai Indians in their last league game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday. They received a hammering of a defeat by SRH by 10 wickets, Mumbai now play Delhi Capitals in the first Qualifier on November 5 in Dubai.

Meanwhile, former Indian skipper Dilip Vengsarkar questioned Rohit’s return to playing the last game for his IPL franchise, when he was left out of the Indian squads for the Australia series. Doing which he has also sparked the club vs country debate.

Talking to Times of India, Dilip Vengsarkar questioned the status of Rohit’s fitness with him being dropped for the Australia series. He also asked if playing in IPL is more important than representing the country. The former India cricketer also turned the spotlight on Indian physio asking BCCI to investigate whether it was his fault.

“It’s intriguing that Rohit Sharma, the most accomplished batsman of Team India, who was only a few days ago declared unfit to tour Australia by the Indian team’s physio (Nitin Patel) and hence not selected for the trip, is playing and leading MI in the IPL,” Vengsarkar was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

“Now, the question here is, is the IPL more important to him than playing for India? Is the club more important than playing for the nation for him? Will the BCCI take a call on this? Or is it that the BCCI physio faltered in diagnosing Rohit’s injury correctly,” he further pointed out.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has announced the squads for India’s Tour of Australia next month. Many new faces have been included in the squad. KL Rahul has been appointed as the vice-captain of the limited-overs side in the absence of Rohit Sharma.

Rohit had a fitness test done last Sunday, the results of which are still awaited by the BCCI. Meanwhile, former Indian batsman, Virender Sehwag has blasted Indian head coach Ravi Shastri for not taking a stance on the entire matter.

“I do not agree with this statement of Ravi Shastri that he is not a part of the selection committee. Even if it is not official, the coach and captain must have spoken unofficially to the selectors regarding who should be in the team for the Australia tour,” said Sehwag.
