Mohammad Amir replies to Rohit Sharma”s “normal bowler” comment

The main face of Pakistan’s pace attack who recently made a comeback after a five-year ban for spot-fixing charges has finally responded to Rohit Sharma’s ‘normal bowler’ comment. The left arm pacer has a happy knack of picking up important wickets whenever he plays against India. In the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy in England, Amir broke the Indian batting line-up by picking up three important wickets of Kohli, Sharma, and Dhawan which ultimately helped the Sarfaraz Khan led the side to lift the trophy.

It was back in 2016 when Rohit Sharma said that there was no need to create hype around him after the left-arm pacer dismissed him in a T-20 Asia Cup match. He also mentioned that there it’s baseless to compare him with Wasim Akram.

While talking to the media, Rohit was heard saying, “There is just so much hype around him, I don’t think it is right to give him too much hype after one match. He is good but he needs to prove it over and over again. Now people are comparing him to Wasim Akram and all that. He is just a normal bowler, on that given day if he is good, he is good. It is not as if he turns up and blows everyone away,”

“Stop talking about him already. He isn’t the only bowler, Pakistan has five other bowlers who are doing well for them,” he continued.

A year after, while having a chat with the Sky Sports, Amir claimed that he doesn’t get affected by other’s comment. “It’s not my concern at all and I just concentrate on my performances and what I am doing for my team. If I worried about other people’s opinions of me, that would just cause me stress and that is why I avoid it, everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether it’s labeling a cricketer world-class or ordinary; it is up to that individual.” He said.

When asked how he would rate Rohit Sharma as a batsman, he was very clear to mention that he considers him an outstanding batsman. “In fact, I would call him an extraordinary batsman. His record for India is superb and I respect him. His opinions about other cricketers are up to him, but with all due respect I never worry about what other cricketers have to say about me,” he concluded.

Mohammad Amir has picked up 43 wickets in 14 test matches since he made a comeback in the squad.
