With the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) already done and dusted, the focus has shifted to the next season. It has already been reported that BCCI is planning to add one more team from the next season to make it a nine-team affair.

Meanwhile, BCCI is planning to add new teams to IPL for quite some time now. It could bring tenders for the new team in the coming days. Reports suggested that the BCCI wanted to introduce the teams to recover for the losses incurred and would bring the tender after Diwali which was celebrated on Saturday.

Sanjiv Goenka keen to buy new IPL team

A report in Mumbai Mirror has reported that the franchises have been told there is a possibility of new teams being added to the tournament soon. The franchises are, however, not very supportive of the same as new team would make a mega auction mandatory. The franchises do not have enough time to plan for the auction since IPL 2021 is scheduled to be played in its usual slot.

The Mumbai Mirror report also add that Adani Group and Sanjiv Goenka Group are interested parties and might bid for the ninth team. A few others are also in the fray including South Indian superstar Mohanlal.

Incidentally, Sanjiv Goenka had bought Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) for IPL 2016 and 2017. The team was introduced in the IPL along with Gujarat Lions after Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan  Royals were suspended for two years. MS Dhoni had led RPS in 2016 before Smith guided the team to the final in 2017.
