Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Abdul Samad has been one of the young finds of the IPL this season. Hailing from Kashmir, Samad showcased his hard-hitting capabilities as a batsman and also pitched in with his handy leg breaks whenever his team needed them.
In the 11 matches, Abdul Samad played for the Sunrisers this season, he scored 111 runs at a hefty strike rate of 170 during which he smacked 6 sixes. This year, Sunrisers Hyderabad were missing an apparent finisher in their side, with injuries to Mitchell Marsh and Vijay Shankar very early in the tournament. As a result, they entrusted the all-rounder from Kashmir to fill in for the finisher’s role to which the youngster didn’t disappoint.
You Should Be Selective While Hitting Big Hits – Irfan Pathan to Abdul Samad
After a fairly accepting season for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Abdul Samad revealed how in the past he struggled to score runs because of the absence of tolerance. He’s always been a hard hitter of the ball but lack of patience always tested his ability to play long innings to which it was former India International Irfan Pathan who came to the all rounder’s aid.
“After playing Under-19 one-dayers when we came back home, there was a camp set up, where Irfan bhai had come. Irfan bhai saw me batting, and he asked why I was not able to score the big runs. I told him that I lacked a little patience,” said Samad.
Abdul Samad further added how Irfan advised to attack balls selectively instead of going after every ball and also said that if he goes on scoring big knocks by playing such cricket then he could soon don the Indian colours one day.
“He (Irfan) told me then that I should hit but a little selectively. He told me that if I look at scoring big runs, then I am capable of playing for India one day,” said Samad.
