CSK youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad who made headlines in the recently concluded IPL has opened up on the ‘didn’t find the spark in the youngsters’ statement by MS Dhoni. The Chennai Super Kings franchise didn’t have the most ideal IPL season as they finished 7th for the first time in history.

Gaikwad, who hails from Pune was first bought by the Chennai Super Kings franchise in the 2019 IPL auction for a mere amount of 20 Lakh rupees but failed to find a game in the very same season. Prior to the start of the 2020 season, Ruturaj Gaikwad contracted the COVID-19 disease upon arriving in the UAE and missed out on the initial few games. But then came a time when he was finally included in the playing XI but failed to get going in first few games.

There came a time when CSK lost all hopes of qualifying for the playoffs, that is when the management promoted him to open the innings. After which there was no looking back for the youngster as he went on to smash three back to back half-centuries for his side.

Ruturaj Gaikwad reveals MS Dhoni’s words

Ruturaj Gaikwad in his interview to Telegraph.com opened up on the statement made by MS Dhoni where he mentioned how they were unable to find the spark in the youngsters. The Pune boy defended his skipper’s words by saying people might have taken his words in a different sense to what he actually meant.

“I didn’t read much into what MS had said and I never felt he intended that way. He must have thought of something and said, but people took it the other way. What he said didn’t matter to me or didn’t even get to my head,” Ruturaj Gaikwad said.

He further added how MS Dhoni liked his batting as he constantly used to advice the youngster during their net sessions. The former India World Cup-winning skipper advised Gaikwad to focus on the process and worry less about the results.

“At nets, he would advise me regarding my batting and on top of that, he has always liked my batting, At nets, MS used to tell me, ‘just make sure your process is right and don’t worry about the results.’ I just followed that,” the 23-year-old said while speaking to The Telegraph India.
