The Indian all-rounder who has been slapped with a one test match ban by the International Cricket Council for accumulating six demerit points in the past 24 months after the second match against Sri Lanka replied to his ban in an ironic way on Monday.

The 28-year old cricketer from Saurashtra Ravindra Jadeja acknowledged his culpability in throwing the ball back to Sri Lanka’s Malinda Pushpakumara after fielding the ball off his own bowling but took to social media to underline what he actually believes.

Jadeja was held accountable for breaching article 2.2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Player and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match”.

Jadeja, who is well-known for his sword like celebration upon reaching half-centuries, chose a Bollywood dialogue to express his feelings. He tweeted, “Hum sharif kya hue puri duniya hi badmash ho gayi (The entire world has gone notorious when I decided to turn good.)”

Former India legend, Sunil Gavaskar who termed the ban as overreaction said to NDTV, “Ravindra Jadeja’s one-match ban was an overreaction from umpires and match referee.”

Jadeja was adjudged the man of the match for a brilliant all-round performance taking 5 wickets in the second innings and scoring a vital score of 70 not out of 85 balls, as India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 53 runs.
