PCB CEO Wasim Khan Uncertain About India Hosting 2021 T20 World Cup

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO Wasim Khan feels that there is ‘some uncertainty’ over India’s capacity to host the T20 World Cup next year by looking at India’s situation with respect to COVID-19 cases.

India was awarded the hosting rights for the 2021 T20 World Cup as the 2020 T20 World Cup which was supposed to be held in Australia was postponed amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. While BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly remains committed to hosting the T20 World Cup in India, PCB CEO has raised some eyebrows over the same.

T20 World Cup could be in  UAE – PCB CEO Wasim Khan

Khan accepted the fact that with the rising cases in India, the marquee occasion could move to the United Arab Emirates. Incidentally, BCCI successfully conducted the recently concluded IPL where Mumbai Indians avenged champions for the fifth time in history.

“There is still some uncertainty over the World T20 being held in India…yes because of the Covid situation there. It could be in UAE,” Wasim Khan said in an interview to the Cricket Baaz YouTube channel.

Wasim Khan further added that the PCB is as yet anticipating affirmation from the ICC and BCCI over the issuance of visas to the Pakistan side. He also revealed how the Asian Cricket Council has decided that the next Asia Cup will be hosted in Sri Lanka and after which the Asian tournament will move to Pakistan for the 2022 edition.

”Yes Mani Sahab (PCB chief Ehsan Mani) has written to them and requested them that given the state of relations between India and Pakistan, it would be best if the ICC and BCCI gives a written assurance about the visas being issued to us,” Khan added.

“The next Asia Cup will be hosted in Sri Lanka in June and we have got hosting rights now for the 2022 Asia Cup,” he said.
