It was the start of 2nd round matches of Ranji Trophy matches. Karnataka, defending Champions Gujarat, Mumbai started their tournaments today.
In Group A, Assam took on Karnataka at Msyuru. It was a great performance by Karnataka bowlers to dismiss the visitors for 145. K Gowtham took 4 wickets, while Sheryas Gopal took 3 wickets while top scorer for Assam was captain G Sharma with 55. In reply, Karnataka are in a strong position at 77 for 0.
Delhi took on Railways in the second match of Group A. Delhi got off to a worse start losing 3 wickets for 34 runs. Nitish Rana scored 89, A Rawat 74, Manan Sharma 68 not out helped them to recover at 318 for 6. The match between Hyderabad and Uttar Pradesh did not happen due to wet outfield.
In Group B, Sauhastra took on Jammu and Kashmir at Rajkot. The hosts lost 3 wickets before Sheldon Jackson and Ravindra Jadeja scored centuries. Jadeja is still not out on 150. Sauhastra ended day 1 on 428 for 4 . Â Rajasthan took on Jharkhand in 2nd match of Group B at Jaipur. Jharkhand captain won the toss and fielded first. Rajasthan struggled at 119 for 4 before Tajinder Singh and AV Gautam ended the day on 248 for 4.
Defending Champions Gujarat played their first match of the tournament by taking on Kerala. For Kerala, Sanju Samson, Sachin Baby and Jalaj Saxena could contribute. Piyush Chawla took 5/69 and bowled out Kerala for 208. In reply, Gujarat are 60 for 2. Â In the last match of Group B, Baroda took on Andhra Pradesh at Vaddodra. K Devdhar was the top scorer for hosts with 93 and Pathan brothers were dismissed cheaply. Baroda ended day 1 on 247 for 7.
In Group C, Madhya Pradesh took on Mumbai. Naman Ojha remained not out on 99 and his unbeaten partnership of 112 runs for the 6th wicket with Ankit Sharma helped hosts MP to reach 250 for 5. Hosts Tamil Nadu took on Tripura at Chennai today. SK Patel scored 99, Yashpal Singh 96 but rest of Tripura batsmen failed to score big runs. At end of day 1, Tripura were 244 for 7.
In Group D, Punjab took on Vidarbha at Mohali. It was a great bowling performance by Vidarbha bowlers dismissing hosts Punjab for 161. In reply, Vidarbha are in a strong position at 106 for 1. Goa took on HP at Dharamshala. The visitors batsmen could not contribute much and were dismissed for 255. In reply, HP ended day 1 on 2 for 0.
Bengal took on Chhattisgarh in final match of day. Bengal openers scored made useful contributions and ended day 1 on 283 for 2. AB Ghosh scored 114, A Raman 94.

Karnataka captain Vinay Kumar won the toss and elected to field. Assam openers began well adding 20 runs for the first wicket. After that the Karnataka did not allow the Assam batsmen to score runs easily and bowled them out for 145. In reply, Mayank Agarwal and R Samarth have put on 77 runs for the first wicket at the end of day 1.
