Ranji Trophy 2017/18 2nd round: Ravindra Jadeja & Sheldon Jackson slam tons on day 1

It was the start of 2nd round matches of Ranji Trophy matches. Karnataka, defending Champions Gujarat, Mumbai started their tournaments today.

In Group A, Assam took on Karnataka at Msyuru. It was a great performance by Karnataka bowlers to dismiss the visitors for 145. K Gowtham took 4 wickets, while Sheryas Gopal took 3 wickets while top scorer for Assam was captain G Sharma with 55. In reply, Karnataka are in a strong position at 77 for 0.

Delhi took on Railways in the second match of Group A. Delhi got off to a worse start losing 3 wickets for 34 runs. Nitish Rana scored 89, A Rawat 74, Manan Sharma 68 not out helped them to recover at 318 for 6.  The match between Hyderabad and Uttar Pradesh did not happen due to wet outfield.

In Group B, Sauhastra took on Jammu and Kashmir at Rajkot. The hosts lost 3 wickets before Sheldon Jackson and Ravindra Jadeja scored centuries. Jadeja is still not out on 150. Sauhastra ended day 1 on 428 for 4 .  Rajasthan took on Jharkhand in 2nd match of Group B at Jaipur. Jharkhand captain won the toss and fielded first. Rajasthan struggled at 119 for 4 before Tajinder Singh and AV Gautam ended the day on 248 for 4.

Defending Champions Gujarat played their first match of the tournament by taking on Kerala. For Kerala, Sanju Samson, Sachin Baby and Jalaj Saxena could contribute. Piyush Chawla took 5/69 and bowled out Kerala for 208. In reply, Gujarat are 60 for 2.  In the last match of Group B, Baroda took on Andhra Pradesh at Vaddodra. K Devdhar was the top scorer for hosts with 93 and Pathan brothers were dismissed cheaply. Baroda ended day 1 on 247 for 7.

In Group C, Madhya Pradesh took on Mumbai. Naman Ojha remained not out on 99 and his unbeaten partnership of 112 runs for the 6th wicket with Ankit Sharma helped hosts MP to reach 250 for 5.  Hosts Tamil Nadu took on Tripura at Chennai today. SK Patel scored 99, Yashpal Singh 96 but rest of Tripura batsmen failed to score big runs. At end of day 1, Tripura were 244 for 7.

In Group D, Punjab took on Vidarbha at Mohali. It was a great bowling performance by Vidarbha bowlers dismissing hosts Punjab for 161. In reply, Vidarbha are in a strong position at 106 for 1. Goa took on HP at Dharamshala. The visitors batsmen could not contribute much and were dismissed for 255. In reply, HP ended day 1 on 2 for 0.

Bengal took on Chhattisgarh in final match of day. Bengal openers scored made useful contributions and ended day 1 on 283 for 2. AB Ghosh scored 114, A Raman 94.

Group A

Assam vs. Karnataka (Mysuru)

Karnataka captain Vinay Kumar won the toss and elected to field. Assam openers began well adding 20 runs for the first wicket. After that the Karnataka did not allow the Assam batsmen to score runs easily and bowled them out for 145. In reply, Mayank Agarwal and R Samarth have put on 77 runs for the first wicket at the end of day 1.

Delhi vs. Railways ( Delhi)

Delhi took on Railways at Karni Stadium, Delhi. Delhi captain won the toss and elected to bat. At one time, Delhi were struggling at 34 for 3. Nitish Rana scored 89, A Rawat 74, Manan Sharma 68 not out helped them to recover at 318 for 6. Anureet Singh took 3 wickets for Railways

Saurashtra vs. Jammu and Kashmir ( Rajkot)

Saurashtra captain Pujara won the toss and batted first. Saurashtra lost 3 wickets before Sheldon Jackson quick fire 181 and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the innings with great partnership of 281 runs for the 4th wicket. Saurashtra ended day 1 on 428 for 4.

Rajasthan vs. Jharkhand ( Jaipur)

Jharkhand captain Saraubh Tiwary won the toss and fielded first at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur . Rajasthan were struggling at 119 for 4 before Tajinder Singh and AV Gautam remained not out to end day 1 on 248 for 4

Gujarat vs. Kerala ( Nadiad)

The defending Champions Gujarat took on Kerala at Nadiad. Kerala batsmen struggled against Gujarat bowlers. Only Sanju Samson, Sachin Baby and Jalaj Saxena could contribute. Kerala were dismissed for 208. Piyush Chawla took 5 wickets 69. In reply, Gujarat are 60 for 2.

Gujarat 60 for 2 in 20 overs ( SB Gohel 26*) trail Kerala 208 in 66.5 overs ( Sanju Samson 51, Sachin Baby 49, Jalaj Saxena 30*, Piyush Chawla 5/69) by 148 runs.

Baroda vs. Andhra ( Vadodara)

Baroda took on Andhra at Vaddora today. Andhra Pradesh captain GH Vihari won the toss and fielded first. At one stage, Baroda were well placed at 177 for 2 but Andhra Pradesh made a good comeback restricted the hosts to 247 for 7 in 90 overs. Yusuf Pathan dismissed for 1 and Irfan Pathan for 0.

Group C

Madhya Pradesh vs. Mumbai ( Indore)

Madhya Pradesh won the toss and elected to bat. The hosts were struggling at 138 for 5 but Naman Ojha 99 and Ankit Sharma 63 helped MP to reach 250 for 5 at the close of play.

Tamil Nadu vs. Tripura ( Chennai)

Tamil Nadu took on Tripura at MA Chidarbam Stadium, Chennai. TN captain A Mukund won the toss and fielded first. SK Patel and Yashpal Singh scored good scores but Tripura failed to score big runs. Tripura ended day 1 on 244 for 7.

Group D

Punjab vs. Vidarbha ( Mohali)

Punjab captain Yuvraj Singh won the toss and elected to bat first. It was a great bowling display by Vidarbha bowlers reducing the hosts to 89 for 7. Abhishek Gupta played quick fire innings of 89 in 93 balls. Punjab were dismissed for 161. In reply, Vidarbha are in a strong position at 106 for 1

Himachal Pradesh vs. Goa ( Dharamshala)

Himachal Pradesh took on Goa at Dharamshala. Goa batsmen could not score big runs and were bowled out for 255. The top scorer for Goa was RR Singh with 55. For HP, PP Jaiswal picked 4 wickets for 59

HP 2/0 in 2 overs trail Goa 255 in 85.5 overs ( RR Singh 55*, SS Dubashi 39, PP Jaiswal 4/59) by 253 runs.

Chhattisgarh vs. Bengal ( Raipur) 

In the last match of day, Chhattisgarh took on Bengal at Raipur. Bengal openers made useful contributions with A Raman dismissed on 94, KB Ghosh run out on 114. Bengal ended day 1 on 283 for 2.
