Former Indian batsman Suresh Raina retired from international cricket on 15th August 2020, the very same day in which former Indian skipper MS Dhoni retired from international cricket as well. Both were great friends throughout their international career and great friends till now as well. While Dhoni has retired from both domestic and international cricket, Raina will be playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the IPL later this year. Speaking to TOI, Raina spoke about why he decided to retire alongside MS Dhoni on August 15, 2020.
“I felt it was the right time. Our friendship is very different. We have won a lot of matches for the country and in the IPL, too. Definitely. We will meet and plan. Things will be good and I hope everything will go as per plan,” he told TOI.
Suresh Raina To Play IPL 2021
Suresh Raina skipped IPL 2020 due to personal reasons but has said that he will be playing the IPL this year. He is one of the very few players to have started preparing for the season as well. Raina’s absence was one of the reasons why Chennai Super Kings did not have a season to remember.

With the CSK CEO giving Raina and Harbhajan Singh an ultimatum regarding the termination of their IPL contracts, it will be interesting to see if Raina is retained by the franchise. If CSK releases him, then he will be in auction for the first time since 2008.
Raina’s absence created an unwanted controversy in the CSK camp. Several reports were written on why he decided to opt-out from the season. The CSK officials found them at the end of many questions hurled at them.
Raina will kick off the preparations for IPL 2021 as he will be representing Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali. India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is also part of the squad.
