The Chennai Super Kings franchise have announced their retentions for the upcoming edition of the IPL as they look to rebuild their team just like Rajasthan Royals side. After having qualified for playoffs in every season, a disaster struck the MS Dhoni led franchise as they finished 7th in the 2020 season which was held in UAE.
With the 2021 season likely to be MS DHoni’s last season, they will also be looking to groom a new leader who would take over the reigns from Chennai’s long standing Thala MS Dhoni.

Chennai Super Kings Retentions
The 3 time winners released Kedar Jadhav after a poor 2020 season in the Emirates wherein he was also dropped in later part of the tournament. Apart from Jadhav, Chennai Super Kings have also released Harbhajan Singh who didnt feature in the previous season as the off spinner backed out citing personal reasons. Shane Watson announced at the completion of the 2020 IPL season that he will be retiring from all forms of cricket. Apart of these, they have also released Monu Singh, Murli Vijay and Piyush Chawla.
In the retentions, Chennai Super Kings have retained their skipper MS Dhoni along with Suresh Raina, who didn’t feature in the previous edition due to personal reasons. Dwayne Bravo, Faf Du PLessis, Imran Tahir, Lungi Ngidi, Mitchell Santner, Josh Hazlewood and Sam Curran are the overseas players retained whereas in the Indian contingent, Ambati Rayudu, KM Asif, Deepak Chahar, Narayan Jagadeesan, Karn Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shardul Thakur and R Sai Kishore have been retained.
