Mohammed Siraj drove straight from the airport to his father’s grave to complete the last rites after reaching Hyderabad on Thursday. Siraj‘s 63-day long and agonizing wait finally came to an end as the speedster drove straight from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad to the graveyard in Khairtabad to pay his last respects to his departed father Mohammed Ghouse. The Indian pacer lost his father while he was with the Indian team in Australia to play the recently completed tour.
The BCCI gave Mohammed Siraj an option to return home to complete the last rituals but the Indian pacer chose to stay on. On Thursday, he finally performed the last rites at his father’s grave to give him a final closure.
“Siraj arrived around 9 in the morning and from there he went straight to the graveyard. His father would have been very proud to see Siraj do so exceedingly well in Test cricket, especially against the Australians on their home ground. Siraj would have been happier if he had been able to hug his father on his return and share his success stories but destiny seems to have other plans,” said Siraj’s closest friend Mohammed Shafi, who had accompanied him to the graveyard.

Mohammed Siraj always spoke very highly of his father and the importance that he held in his life.
“I lost the biggest supporter of my life. He was the person who supported me the most in my pursuit of a cricket career. It’s a great loss for me,” Siraj had said from Australia.
It was a fitting end as the man from Hyderabad ended as India’s highest wicket-taker in his debut Test series for his country and leading a pace attack that had a total experience of four Test matches. He ended the series with 13 wickets including a fifer in the final Test at The Gabba.
