Indian cricketer Sanju Samson has cleared BCCI’s newly laid 2-KM fitness Test in the second attempt after TOI reported him failing the Test in the first attempt along with six other Indian cricketers. He thus becomes available for selection in the upcoming white-ball series against England which starts from March 12. Earlier, BCCI introduced the new fitness Test as a mandatory Test to be passed by Indian cricketers.
The report had added that the players would be given a second chance as it’s a new test. Meanwhile, their failure to pass the fitness Test had put their selection in the upcoming white-ball series against in England in doubt.
Sanju Samson took to Twitter to inform his fans about him passing the mandatory fitness Test. He will now join his state team for the upcoming Vijay Hazare trophy 2021. Apart from Samson, the likes of Ishan Kishan, Jaydev Uandkat, and Siddharth Kail have also cleared the test. Kishan had delivered the update on social media.

All the players who have passed the test are available for selection and the majority of them can be part of the squad as the selectors are likely to rest regulars.
Along with the Yo-Yo Test which is in place since the last two years, the BCCI has introduced a new fitness Test, called the time trial test for young players who are aspiring to play for the country at the international level. This will be a new speed and endurance Test over a distance of 2 km. This is an innovative move by the cricket board to scale new heights in terms of fitness.
As per a report in The Indian Express, the benchmark for fast bowlers would be 8 minutes and 15 seconds while for batsmen, spinners and wicket-keepers, it would be 8 minutes and 30 seconds. The new test doesn’t replace the existing Yo-Yo test but comes as the second fitness assessment that the players would now have to clear.
