Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has slammed England’s rotation policy for an important Test series like India with a spot in the World Test Championship on the line. England need to win the series to play the finals and their team selection for the Pink-Ball Test has been questionable. They have roped in Jonny Bairstow in the batting line-up and have opted to drop Dom Bess for an extra seaming option for the Test match. Meanwhile, after the first day, it is pretty clear that England have read the pitch and the conditions wrong and that not paying two spinners was not a good idea.
The two Indian spinners took nine wickets from the opposition camp and Jack Leach took the big wicket of Virat Kohli and almost had Rohit Sharma stumped.
Meanwhile, taking to Twitter, Michael Vaughan has questioned the logic behind England’s rotation policy against a formidable Indian team which is playing at their full-strength.

Vaughan opined that England have named their lineups for the high-profile series like the Premier League (EPL) clubs treat the initial stages of the Football Association (FA) Cup. “England have treated selection for this series like premier league teams treat the early stages of the FA Cup rounds … #INDvENG Against the best team in the world !!!!!!! ,” Vaughan said in one of his tweets on Wednesday.

England will be playing as many as 17 Tests matches throughout the year along with their bilateral ODI series and the ICC World T20 in India. Thus to keep the players fresh and away from the bubble for a length of time, the England Cricket Board have opted for the rotation policy. However, the move has backfired after the first Test in Chennai, where England have been completely outplayed by the opposition and the conditions on offer.
England in this Pink-Ball Test did not have the best of starts either. They were bowled out for 112 and now are up against it with India on 99 for 3 and looking good to dominate day 2.
