The IPL season is just around the corner and BCCI have already commenced preparing for the big season. The venues for the tournament has not been announced yet but BCCI is trying to identify some venues where bio-bubble will created to conduct all IPL matches.
IPL schedule and venues will be decided after governing council meetingÂ
The IPL schedule and venues are expected to be announced later this month or early April after the governing council meeting. It is believed that the IPL Governing Council will take the final call during a meeting, but no date has been fixed for that yet. The next season of the IPL is expected to be played between April-May in India.
The biggest headache for the BCCI will be to settle on suitable venues considering the COVID-19 scare. Also, it looks highly unlikely that IPL 2021 will be played in packed houses considering the safety of all the players and officials. The BCCI has so far successfully hosted the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and England’s tour of India in a bio-secure bubble.
Meanwhile, originally BCCI was aiming to conduct IPL matches in Pune, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. However, due to growing COVID-19 cases in the state of Maharashtra, the state government imposed new restrictions. Hence it looks challenging for the BCCI to stage the matches of the upcoming IPL season in Maharashtra.

The three-match ODI series between India and England, which was supposed to be played in Pune, was restricted from having crowds in the stands. Now it is assumed that Chennai, Delhi and Ahmedabad have been shortlisted as the venues for IPL 2021.
Also, As per the reports published on ESPNCricinfo, IPL governing council is waiting for the election poll dates of states like West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, so that the schedule doesn’t clash with the tournament. After the conclusion of the Kolkata elections, the BCCI is proposing to host a majority of the IPL matches at Eden Gardens.
