Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has not fallen short of words in praising Team India after their Test series win over England. This was India’s second big series win this year after the one against Australia earlier. Meanwhile, he has also lauded Virat Kohli for the way he has led his team. Not scoring too many runs with the bat, Virat has always kept the spirit of the team-high throughout the series.

Ravi Shastri spoke at the press conference about various issues regarding the team and the one point he highlighted was the contribution of Virat Kohli behind forming the team. Shastri praised Kohli’s professionalism, work ethic, fitness and also credited the skipper for setting high fielding standards.

Virat Kohli On The Same Page With Me: Ravi Shastri

“A lot of people forget the role Virat Kohli has played [in Team India’s success]. If my mindset and his mindset had not matched, we would have gone nowhere. Virat was on the same page as me. He wanted professionalism, work ethic, fitness and high fielding standards. He wanted trust within the system and positive energy channeled toward playing cricket,” Shastri was quoted as saying

With the convincing win over England, the Kohli-led side also finished at the top of the ICC World Test Championship standings. Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri further said that this team is all about ‘We’ and not I.

“[He wanted] no excuses whether you win or lose, [players to] take ownership rather than pointing fingers. ‘This, that, umpire messed made the wrong call’, this team doesn’t give excuses. Remove the ‘I’ word and put ‘we’ in its place. All this has together worked for us as a team,” Shastri added.

India now will face New Zealand in the WTC final on June 18. The venue for the final was Lord’s initially but a spike in the number of cases has made the ICC think otherwise. The next venue will be announced in due course.
