England Cricket Team has been dealt with another major blow with their skipper Eoin Morgan ruled out of the remainder of the One-Day Internationals against India. With 1-0 down in the series, the visitors play their next two games of the series on March 26 (Friday) and March 28 (Sunday). The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune will host all the games due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Morgan will miss out after sustaining a split webbing between his thumb and index finger in Tuesday’s series opener. He underwent four stitches but came out to bat in the second half of the game. Eoin Morgan went through a fielding drill during training at the MCA Stadium on March 25 (Thursday) and afterwards declared himself unfit.

Jos Buttler to lead in place of Eoin Morgan

“I had the hand re-dressed before the start of training today but it quickly became apparent that I found myself protecting the injury and getting into the wrong positions to catch the ball. There’s nowhere to hide on the field in international cricket these days, especially in limited-over formats so it didn’t require any great thought to make myself unavailable,” Eoin Morgan said.

“It was a freak injury and it’s extremely frustrating but there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s now just a case of letting the cut heal. I have every confidence in Jos and the rest of the squad coping without me,” he added.

England wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler will lead the side in the absence of Eoin Morgan. He has earlier led the side and will have a lot of hopes pinned on him as the three lions look to bounce back in the series. Along with the England captain, Sam Billings will be unavailable for game two of the series on Friday, with a decision on his availability for Sunday’s final match to be taken in due course.

Billings did not train on Thursday after he suffered a bruised left collar bone while fielding in Tuesday’s opening match. Liam Livingstone is all set to make his ODI debut while the No.1 T20I batsman Dawid Malan, with the tour party as cover, has been drafted into the squad and is available for selection.
