Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captain David Warner spoke about Kane Williamson’s injury update after their loss against Mumbai Indians on Saturday at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Williamson endured a left-elbow injury in March and was expected to be fit within one week of the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL). But Williamson is still unfit to take the field and is working on his fitness.

During their matches, Kane Williamson was seen sitting in the dugout. A few days ago, Williamson said in a video posted by SRH that he would be fit within one more week.  Yesterday, after SRH’s third consecutive defeat, Warner opened up about the Kiwi skipper’s injury.

As Kane Williamson is warming up the bench, David Warner opted for Jonny Bairstow, Rashid Khan, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman alongside himself as the four overseas players. Speaking on his availability, Warner stated that he will talk to physios as the Kiwi skipper plays a vital role in the squad. Williamson was one of the highest run-scorers for SRH in the last season.

“We have to speak to the physios, he’s (Kane Williamson) coming along nicely and plays a big role in our squad,” Warner said.

After setting their run-chase, captain Warner and his opening partner Jonny Bairstow threw away their wickets in a silly way. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow started well in the run chase. Bairstow racked up 18 runs in an over and made a quick 43 runs from just 22 deliveries. But he got hit-wicket while contemplating a sweep shot. After a while, Warner was run out and Manish Pandey fell cheaply. The side was stumbling at the crease once again in the IPL. With no one to partner Vijay Shankar, the team lost the game.

“I don’t know how to take that. Two of us got set, my run out, Jonny stepping on his wickets, and false shots in the middle proved that if you don’t have two guys at the end, you don’t win. These scores are very chase-able, it’s just poor batting.”

“If you get a partnership and have one guy at the end, you can chase down 150 easily. You just need smart cricket in the middle, we aren’t doing that,” David Warner added.
