Ace Kolkata Knight Riders’ all-rounder Andre Russell has not looked in the best of touch in the ongoing edition of IPL. As a result, the Knight Riders have blown hot and cold in the season winning one in three matches so far. Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan believes managing Russell will be a difficult task for skipper Eoin Morgan and head coach Brendon McCullum.
Vaughan’s words came after Kolkata Knight Riders’ 38-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kolkata needed 44 runs in the final two overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Andre Russell was on strike. He tried to hit Mohammed Siraj for boundaries and denied taking any single. However, he could only manage 1 single run off the last ball.
Andre Russell seems to be struggling on the field – Michael Vaughan
While speaking to Cricbuzz, former English cricketer Michael Vaughan said that Andre Russell is always using his feet while fielding. The 46-year-old Englishman said that the Jamaican-born all-rounder seems to be struggling every time he is out on the field. Vaughan also highlighted that Eoin Morgan and Brendon McCullum will have to work overtime to manage the all-rounder.
“When you got player like Andre Russell, who has been a superstar, but on the field, when the ball is coming to him, he is always using his feet. He is obviously someone who cannot go down. It’s a very clever and careful aspect which Eoin Morgan will have to manage,” Michael Vaughan said.
“When he is at his best, he is great. But when you see him on the field, and when is bowling, he appears to be struggling. While batting he is not taking the twos. He needed to take the twos in the 19th over. Because you want him back on strike. Very difficult to manage for Brendon McCullum and Eoin Morgan,” Michael Vaughan added.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders’ current toil at sixth place with only one win from three matches. Next up, they face three-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings on April 21 (Wednesday) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
