“What Matters To Me Is Respect,” Mohammed Amir Opens Up On His Retirement

Cricketers having conflict with Pakistan Cricket Board is nothing new, but Mohammad Amir’s incident was extreme. The speedster hung up his booths after the hostility between him and PCB peaked and turned into an unrepairable equation. While many reckoned the step was to boost his franchise-based career, Amir recently claimed that his settlement was not ‘selfish’.

PCB rebuffed Amir for a place in the team. After Pakistan tours of New Zealand, Amir called off his career. However, Amir is open to the chances of making his way back to international cricket if the relationship gets balanced in the future.

“There was nothing selfish about my decision to retire. At the moment there is no chance of me making a comeback, but if things get better then, who knows, maybe you will see me playing for Pakistan once again in the future,” he told Wisden.

What matters to me is respect – Mohammed Amir

Considered as one of the finest pacers of the generation, Mohammed Amir retired from international cricket on December 17, 2020. The 29-year-old revealed that he didn’t get the respect he deserved from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials that played a major role in the pacer calling time on his career.

“What matters most to me is respect and I felt that I wasn’t getting the respect I deserved and that’s why I took the decision to retire. The people in charge of Pakistan cricket have their job to do, they have their responsibilities and have their decisions to make, and I have my career to continue and look forward to,” Mohammed Amir said.

Mohammed Amir played for Pakistan between 2007 to 2020. In 2010, the International Cricket Council (ICC) banned him for five years. He became the youngest to reach the 50-wicket mark in Test in early 2010. In 2015, he made his comeback, and in 2016, he made his international comeback. The talent has always been involved in controversial situations. In 36 Tests he has 119 wickets, 81 wickets in 61 One Day Internationals, and 59 scalps in 50 T20 Internationals.
