Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson hopped into the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) edition with a century against Punjab Kings in their season opener. But as the edition has sped up, Samson has found himself in the trench. After the exhilarating 119 against PKBS, Samson has just piled up 28 runs in three games at a shallow average of 8.67.

After his disastrous failure, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said that Samson has found ways of getting out in the 14th edition of the IPL. In RR’s last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Samson managed 21 runs that noted two boundaries and a maximum.

Just when Samson appeared fitting in the match, he gave himself to Glenn Maxwell who was stationed at midwicket. The veteran cricketer opined that Samson needed to shoulder more responsibility and lead his side from the front.

“He (Samson) seems to be in a rush all the time. Look at the way he finds ways of getting out. The man’s got all the talent in the world. If he just plays proper cricketing shots, he will be fine,” Gavaskar told on Star Sports.

“The captain has to stand up and deliver. He did it in the first game but that has been the problem with him. One of the reasons why he has not been featuring in the Indian team is that he scores runs in one game and then he looks to do it and carry on as if he’s batting in the next game from the same game, and that’s how he keeps getting out,” he added.

In their last match, the Royals suffered a suffocating 10 wickets loss to Challengers. RCB chased down 178 without gifting a single wicket. The young batter from Karnataka – Devdutt Padikkal smashed a century while Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 72 to chase down the target with 21 balls to spare.

After the loss, Sanju Samson was quoted saying, “We need to go back and do some homework. We need to be honest with ourselves and come back better.”
