Indian skipper Virat Kohli came forward to help with 6.77 lakhs for the treatment of former Indian women cricketer’s mother. Former India Woman cricketer K.S. Sravanthi Naidu’s mother, SK Suman who has contracted the virus and is undergoing treatment for the virus. Naidu approached then BCCI and Hyderabad Cricket Association for help and ultimately Kohli came forward with the needful help.

Indian fielding coach R Sridhar posted an Instagram story about Naidu’s mother which was later seen by Kohli and he came forward and helped for treatment. N Vidya Yadav, former BCCI South Zone convenor (women’s cricket) and sister of former BCCI president N. Shivlal Yadav, had tagged Virat Kohli in a tweet seeking help for Sravanthi who had already spent Rs 16 lakh for the treatment of her parents who tested positive for COVID-19.

Virat Kohli’s gesture surprised Vidya and she also spoke about it to Sportstar. “Honestly, I was amazed at his spontaneous gesture. Such a great gesture from such a great cricketer. I am also grateful to the Indian fielding coach R. Sridhar who also took up the issue with Kohli,” Vidya said while speaking to Sportstar.

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma had started work for COVID relief just after the IPL 2021 season was postponed by the BCCI. The couple had donated a sum of two crores themselves to the fundraiser. It raised a total of around 11 crores and all the money went for the welfare of COVID-19 patients who require oxygen and other things.

Meanwhile, the Indian team led by Kohli will be leaving for UK on June 2 along with the Indian women cricketers for the WTC final and the subsequent England series.

Senior Indian women cricketers Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur have denied reports of BCCI’s bias towards women cricketers saying that the board have arranged for chartered flights for women cricketers as well and thanked the board for the same.
