The BCCI is likely to host the remaining IPL 2021 in the UAE as per the latest reports in TOI. They are looking to host the rest of the season between September 15 to October 15. The season was earlier suspended the BCCI after players from various IPL franchises tested COVID positive. This made the BCCI and the IPL governing council to postpone the tournament for the time being.
Meanwhile, the BCCI were trying to get a month’s window in September. The board will take a final call on the venue and the window in the upcoming special general meeting on May 29. It might ask the ECB to change the schedule of the Test series to fit in the IPL window. However, the ECB had earlier said that BCCI did not make any request to change the schedule of the Test series and it will go on as per schedule. India will play the WTC final against New Zealand from June 18-22.

Then they have a Test series against England which starts from August 4. There is a nine-day gap between the second and the third Test. BCCI might request ECB to reduce the gap to four days and wrap up the series earlier. . However, the board has not yet opened discussions with the England Cricket Board in the matter. “If that gap can be reduced to four, it will allow BCCI five extra days to make use of,” sources told TOI.
BCCI sources say that the board is looking for a month’s window between September 15 to October 15. They think a month’s window should be enough to play the remaining 31 matches of the IPL 2021 season including the knockouts.
“If we can have those extra days eked out from the India-England schedule, then it adds to the window. If not, then within these 30 days, a full day will have to be set aside for the Indian team and English cricketers to travel from the UK to UAE, five days will have to be set aside for the knockouts later. That will leave the BCCI with 24 days to conclude 27 matches. This window has four weekends available, which means a total of eight Saturdays and Sundays for double-headers, that can accommodate 16 matches. That will leave the BCCI with 11 matches to be held in 19 days. That’s a week extra,” sources were quoted by TOI.
Meanwhile, the T20 World Cup is expected to start from October 18. India are officially still the hosts of the event. An official decision on the same will be taken on June 1.
