Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the occasion of three Twenty20 Internationals against the West Indies in Karachi early next month.
The games are a great step towards the right direction that leads to the return of regular International cricket back in Pakistan.
Ever since the bus of the visiting Sri Lankan team was attacked by terrorists in 2009, Pakistan has seen close to none international cricket.
Pakistan arranged some ODIs and T20Is vs Zimbabwe in 2015. Pakistan Super League”s final as well as three T20Is vs a World XI team and a standalone T20I vs Sri Lanka has been played but owning their home base feel is something that PCB and Pakistan Cricket wishes for. These games are a start.
Interestingly, all these games were played in Lahore”s Gaddafi Stadium purely down to the fact that PCB has its base in the city and a political influence to get the highest possible security at lesser financial fall. And so the spreading of the net of sorts with games in Karachi is a welcome turn of events. Earlier these games were also supposed to be played in Lahore only.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi said the West Indies have confirmed the series.
“It’s a good news that West Indies have confirmed three Twenty20 internationals to be played in Karachi on April 1, 2 and 4,” Sethi told media in Dubai on the sidelines of the ongoing third edition of the PSL.
This also means that PCB is sorting out issues, in fact, bettering their influence and relationship with various government bodies across Pakistan as these games are likely to get a very high-security assurance and presence.
The three T20 Internationals will be played on 1st, 2nd and the 4th of April this year.
