Ravindra Jadeja Recalls How MS Dhoni’s Advice Came To His Rescue During 2015 World Cup

Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made his international debut in 2009 but came to his elements from the 2016 season. The dynamic all-rounder recently recalled how one advice from former skipper MS Dhoni during the 2015 World Cup changed his career.

Jadeja made his international debut after thumping U19 World Cup campaign in 2008 alongside Virat Kohli. However. the Saurashtra-born cricketer didn’t have an easy ride at the international level from the word go. Even while playing his maiden ODI World Cup, in the 2015 edition in Australia-New Zealand, the all-rounder wasn’t delivering his best.

Ravindra Jadeja reveals MS Dhoni’s advice

Ravindra Jadeja, who ended the 2015 ODI World Cup with 9 wickets from 8 games and didn’t contribute much with the bat down the order, recently revealed how then captain MS Dhoni came to his rescue during the showpiece event.

“I remember he said that I was trying to hit shots against balls I shouldn’t be attempting,” Ravindra Jadeja said to Indian Express. “Shot selection was something I also felt I was doing wrong. My judgement at the start wasn’t right. I would be in double mind. ‘Should I go for the shot, or no?’ These days, I like to take my time and I am clearer in my mind. I know I can always cover up the runs later. That change in thinking has helped.”

“About bouncers, yes when you hit a six against short ones, the confidence increases. I never had a problem against bouncers – as in I don’t remember getting out too many times to it or thinking I can’t play it. It was about the selection of shots and my balance,” he signed off.

Ravindra Jadeja will next be seen in action in India’s forthcoming tour of the United Kingdom, where they play the WTC final versus New Zealand followed by five Tests against England, in August-September. He last played for India in the Australia Tests before suffering a thumb injury.
