“There Is So Much Self-belief In Deepak Chahar Sometimes It Feels It Is Over-Confidence” – Aakash Chopra

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has praised Deepak Chahar for his batting in the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Chopra talked about Chahar’s incredible self-belief in batting.

Indian bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar performed brilliantly for the team in the 2nd ODI. With the ball, Chahar picked the wickets of Dhananjaya de Silva and Wanindu Hasaranga. Also with the bat, he was sensational as Deepak scored unbeaten 69 off 82 deliveries to help India win the match. At one stage it looked like India will lose the match.

However 84-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Chahar and Bhuvneshwar helped India win the game by 3 wickets in the last over. In the video, Aakash Chopra talked about Deepak Chahar’s self-confidence in batting. Also, a former cricketer talked about his interaction with bowling all-rounder from 10 years ago. Aakash stated :

“Deepak Chahar is a story of belief, there is so much self-belief in him that sometimes it feels, it is over-confidence. Even ten years ago, when I met him, he used to tell me that he bats well, hits fours and sixes, and that I am giving him less batting. Whenever you talk to him, he talks about bowling but it is not possible that he will not talk about his batting.”

 

The 43-year-old mentioned two important aspects of Chahar’s batting. Chopra lauded Deepak’s self-belief and his shot selection. Aakash asserted:

“There were two or three very important parts of his batting. Firstly, the self-belief that he can win the match from here. Secondly, his shot selection. The calmness with which he played and the shot selection, it was almost impeccable.”

Meanwhile, Deepak came to bat when India was in trouble. When Chahar came to bat India’s score was 160-6 with 116 runs needed for the victory. However, somehow he managed to bat brilliantly to hand over the team the much-needed win.

The cricketer-turned-commentator pinpointed that Deepak Chahar helped Team India to win a difficult match. Aakash Chopra elaborated:

“There is no difference in his saying and doing, he is the same guy. A match which seemed India cannot win, they won that match as well. Deepak Chahar snatched a win from the jaws of defeat. It was that kind of a victory.”

Meanwhile, Chopra concluded the video by talking about Deepak’s bowling spell and his match-defining knock. Aakash stated:

“Of course, he took two wickets as well. He didn’t get wickets with the new ball, so what, but he has taken two wickets each in both the matches with the old ball. And here he played an extremely important knock and hit the winning the shot to win India not only the match but the series.”
