The Indian team registered a clinical victory against Sri Lanka in the first T20I on Sunday, July 25. Batting first the Men in Blue managed to put up 164 on the board at the end of the innings. Suryakumar Yadav while continuing his brilliant form led the Indian batting line-up with a fifty.
The knock included five boundaries and two sixes. Soon after he reached his fifty, he was sent back to the pavilion Wanindu Hasaranga. Suryakumar came down the wicket against a leg break but couldn’t get to the pitch of the ball. He miscued it into the hands of Ramesh Mendis, who made no mistake at the long-off.
India’s coach Rahul Dravid was utterly disappointed with the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav. His reaction was caught on the camera.

In reply to India’s 164, Apart from Charith Asalanka the rest of the Sri Lankan batting line-up faltered. They collapsed at 126 handing India a 38-run victory and a lead of 1-0 in the three-match series. Indian vice-captain Bhuvaneshwar Kumar picked up a four-wicket haul (3.3-0-22-4) and was the player of the match.

Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan praised Suryakumar Yadav’s fifty runs knock in the first T20I. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhawan said, “He(Surya) is a great player and we enjoy watching him bat. He took the pressure from me and the way he plays calculated shots was amazing to watch.”
Shikhar also lauded the efforts of his bowlers, who restricted Sri Lanka to 126 in the second innings. He said, “They were playing well. We knew our spinners will do the job on that wicket. Bhuvi (Bhuvaneshwar Kumar)bowled well, so was KP (Krunal). Everyone stood up and even Varun too playing his first match did well giving a few runs and got the wicket. He’s (Varun Chakravarthy) difficult to pick, I am very happy for him.”
The Indian team is leading the three-match T20I series 1-0. The second T20I will take place on July 25 at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
