Prithvi Shaw and Kolkata Knight Riders’ Varun Chakravarthy are set to make their debut in T20I’s and Twitter users couldn’t be happier. Shaw had recently debuted in the ODI series, and will now appear for India in the shortest format.

After winning the ODI series 2-1, India takes on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series. There were many debates on the Men in Blue’s combination going into the game. Following the toss, Shikhar Dhawan put the speculations to rest. He revealed that Shaw and Chakravarthy had been handed their debut caps.

This comes as a relief for Varun Chakravarthy. He was supposed to be part of the squad earlier, but fitness issues kept him out. Now that he has finally cleared the ‘yo-yo’ test, Chakravarthy will don the Indian jersey for the first time. Earlier in the IPL 2021, he was impressive; especially in the powerplay.

Add to that the fact that he’s new to the international circuit, he carries a certain aura of mystery around him. There was no better time than the Lankan tour to introduce the leg-spinner to the world. The 2021 T20 World cup is coming this year-end and Chakravarthy’s chance to make the squad rests on his performance here.

The same goes for Shaw. Although India is likely to open with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, Shaw can sneak into the squad. However, failure can also mean he loses his place to Devdutt Padikkal, another fan-favorite who’s been in fine form. There is cut-throat competition for the opening slot and the one who grabs his opportunity will make it.
