Watch: Jonny Bairstow’s Brilliant Direct Hit To Dismiss Ajinkya Rahane

After a brilliant performance on Day 1 of the first Test match against England, the Indian team is in trouble having lost four wickets for 125 on the board.

India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is the latest to get dismissed. KL Rahul defended the second delivery of the 43rd over in the innings by Ollie Robinson. He did take a step forward but yelled at Rahane to go back as there was no run on offer. Ajinkya Rahane, who was backing up too far turned back. But a direct hit by Jonny Bairstow from a backward point, cut short Rahane’s stay at the crease. He was run out for 5 of 5 deliveries.

This was Ajinkya Rahane’s thirteenth test match innings for India this year. The right-handed batsman averages just 20.61 scoring 268 runs, including a lone fifty.

England

Earlier in the day, the Indian openers made a cautious start seeing off the first hour of play. But a lapse in concentration resulted in Rohit Sharma’s wicket. He tried to pull a bouncer off Ollie Robinson but was caught at the boundary by Sam Curran for 36 runs off 107 balls. Soon, India’s number 3, Cheteshwar Pujara too walked back to the pavilion as he was caught by the wicket-keeper Jos Buttler off James Anderson.

India’s skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed for a rare golden duck. He edged a peach of a delivery from James Anderson to Jos Butler who made no mistake to make it two-in-two wickets for Anderson. After the fall of Rahane’s wicket, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant joined the half centurion KL Rahul at the crease.

KL Rahul is batting 57* off 148 balls, including nine boundaries, while Rishabh Pant is 7 off 8 balls. The Indian team still trails by 58 runs.
