Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid who was recently the coach of the Indian squad that played against Sri Lanka is likely to reapply for the NCA head’s role. Dravid was appointed as the NCA Head of Cricket in July 2019. His term comes to an end as per the BCCI protocol and the former Indian skipper is likely to reapply.
Rahul Dravid has worked closely with the U-19 set-up and has played a huge role in churning out promising players from the U-19 level. In recent years, Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill are the biggest examples of the same.
Rahul Dravid Likely To Apply For NCA Head Coach Role
“Rahul Dravid could well reapply for the post but with Ravi Shastri’s tenure ending in November 2021 after T20 WC, there is every possibility of Rahul being elevated to head coach’s position. Bottom line, he remains very much a part of system,” a BCCI source told PTI.
Meanwhile, Dravid has said that he is not looking to take up a coaching role with the senior team just yet. “I haven’t really thought anything far ahead, to be honest. I am enjoying doing what I am doing,” he had said.
Meanwhile, the current age limit for the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team is 60 years. With Ravi Shastri turning 59 earlier this year, Dravid is already in the fray to replace him.
Despite tasting success in the ICC World Test Championship, by beating teams like Australia and England, the Shastri-Kohli combination has not yet won an ICC title for India.
“The Head Cricket NCA will be overall responsible for running all Cricket Coaching programs at the NCA. He will be responsible for the preparation, development and performance of all cricketers attending training at the Academy,” read part of the NCA head job description on the BCCI website.
