Delhi Daredevils are now officially knocked out of this edition of the Indian Premier League as they lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore yesterday. AB de Villiers played a vital role in scripting a win by keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Meanwhile, the Delhi camp once again proved to be a “warehouse” for raw Indian young talents. Abhishek Sharma, the 17-year old youngster made his debut and smashed Bangalore bowlers to corners of the stadium.
Abhishek is the second player from the 21st century to represent a team in the cash-rich league next to Mujeeb Zadran. Abhishek played a role of an all-rounder in the Under 19 World Cup. A left-handed batsman and a left-arm orthodox bowler, he played a vital role against Bangladesh in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Yesterday, he scored a quickfire 46 off just 19 deliveries that included three boundaries and four huge sixes. Even Tim Southee was taken to cleaners by him and the bowlers really felt hard to restrict his brutal force.
Twitter erupted after this knock and appreciated him for showing his potential on a big stage in his debut match:
And @IamAbhiSharma4 has arrived ! 46 of 19 this kid is special dd vs RCB

I see two really promising middle order left-handed bastmen in @RishabPant777 and @IamAbhiSharma4 who can make it to the Indian side. The Former is a good wicket keeper and the latter is a handy bowler. #DDVRCB #IPL2018

Maybe hindsight is 20:20 but so is this game…why would #DD not play Abhishek Sharma earlier? It’s not as if they had a winning combination! And these U19 boys have all been special -Gill, Shaw, Abhishek, Mavi..all look like they belong #DDvRCB #VIVOIPL

#AbhishekSharma family including father Raj Kumar Sharma along with his mother travelled from Amritsar to Delhi 2 watch their son make @IPL debut. Both would b very proud of him. After all, he had 2 wait 11 games to get a look into playing @DelhiDaredevils XI

Disappointment at the Kotla. Enjoyed @abhisheksharma 's stellar debut & kept waiting for him to bowl, but it seems his captain forgot he was there while the @DelhiDaredevils pacemen were carted all over the park by @RCBTweets. Once @ABdeVilliers17 & @imVkohli got going, it was🚫 pic.twitter.com/OIJd2OY9uJ

Amazing range of proper cricketing shots from elegant left hand batsman Abhishek Sharma. Reminded of David Gower.
