[WATCH]- Shubman Gill Shrugs Off Hand Injury, Bats Ahead Of BGT 4th Test

Team India batter Shubman Gill was hit on the hand while batting in the nets ahead of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar series in Melbourne on Tuesday, December 24. He became the fourth Indian player to be hit in practice for the Boxing Day Test, following KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Akash Deep.

Gill was seen shaking his hand after being struck by a delivery from Mohammed Siraj. The pacer showed concern and spoke to the batter before returning to his mark. The physio also appeared to assess the injury, but Gill brushed it off and continued to bat.

Team India’s practice session on Tuesday took place on fresh pitches, in contrast to the flat, worn, and lifeless surfaces they had to use during the weekend’s nets.

There has been much speculation about the quality of the practice pitches. Rohit Sharma was hit on the knee by a delivery that kept low after bouncing. Although the captain is fit for the fourth Test, the injury could have been more serious on another occasion.

Shubman Gill was unavailable for the first BGT Test in Perth because of a finger injury

A finger injury had forced Shubman Gill to miss the series opener in Perth. The batter sustained a hairline fracture while attempting to take a catch in the slip cordon during a match simulation ahead of the contest.

The break between the first and second Tests allowed him to return for the pink ball Test in Adelaide. Despite struggling for runs since, he has the backing of the skipper.

“Shubman, both innings Adelaide I thought he looked good. Am not gonna look too much into Brisbane. Gill has been one of our young prospect playing well. These tours can be challenging same as they travel to India. He’s Quality, just about backing his strength,” Rohit Sharma said during the pre-match press conference (via Express Sports).

The fourth Test between India and Australia is set to start on Thursday, December 26.
