The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Monday, October 25 confirmed Ahmedabad and Lucknow as the two new franchised for the upcoming seasons of the Indian Premier League.
The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group has won the bid for the Lucknow franchise worth a whopping 7090 Crores. The group previously owned the Rising Pune Super Giant for a couple of years between 2016 and 2017, following the ban on the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals.

With the addition of two franchises, a mega-auction will be held in December for the franchises. The new franchises need to build their team from the scratch, and more importantly, need to find an able leader. In this article, we take a look at the three players who can lead the Lucknow franchise in the Indian Premier League 2022.
3. David Warner
The former Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner had a forgettable journey in the IPL 2021. He was replaced as the skipper mid-way into the tournament and was also benched for the most part of the UAE leg.
Despite this, David Warner is likely to be one of the most sought-after cricketers for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. The left-handed batter led the Hyderabad franchise to their first and only IPL title in 2016.
He is in the top 5 run-getters list and has won the orange cap thrice in the Indian Premier League. David Warner’s leadership qualities and his track record make him a strong candidate to lead the Lucknow franchise in IPL 2022.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin is considered to be one of the smartest brains in the cricketing world. He has been one of the top wicket-takers in the IPL, with 145 wickets to his name. Ashwin is not only an intelligent bowler but also a very handy batter.
The off-spinner has previously led the Punjab Kings franchise in the 2018 and the 2019 IPL seasons. He also has captained the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association Team in domestic cricket. With his vast experience, Ravichandran Ashwin could be the perfect leader for the Lucknow franchise.
1. Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav is likely to get a lot of attention from the franchises for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. Over the last few years, he has emerged as a match-winner for the Mumbai Indians franchise.
Though Suryakumar Yadav does not have the experience of leading an IPL franchise, he has shown that he is capable of leading one. Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir made Suryakumar Yadav his deputy when the two were in Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Lucknow franchise could target Suryakumar Yadav to lead, and build their side around him.
