Chennai Super Kings (CSK) co-owner and Managing Director of India Cements, N Srinivasan has relieved that MS Dhoni doesn’t want the franchise to spend a huge amount of money for retaining him for the IPL 2022.
MS Dhoni’s CSK are the champions of the 2021 IPL season, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in the Final by a huge margin, to catch hold of their 4th IPL title.

After 14 editions of the Indian Premier League, the IPL will see two new teams with Ahmedabad and Lucknow joining the other eight established cities in the league to make it a 10-team tournament from the first time. The Sanjeev Goenka Group have picked Lucknow as their home base for INR 7090 crores, while owners of CVC Capitals have bagged Ahmedabad for INR 5166 crores.
Speaking to Editorji, Srinivasan said MS Dhoni is a “fair person” who doesn’t want CSK to make an exception for him with regards to retention. He said:
“MS is a very fair person. He wanted the retention policy to come out as he didnāt want CSK to lose money trying to retain him. That is the reason why he gave different replies to people. However, he made a very regnant statement. On being asked about the legacy he left behind, he said I am not gone. So, that says it all.ā
There are two different forms of retaining the players. Either team can keep two Indian and two overseas players or three Indians and one overseas player. The four retention will be very difficult for CSK and other teams looking at the quality of players that the IPL bring in.

CSK has been the most consistent team in the IPL qualifying for each IPL playoffs leaving 2020. The CSK management will be looking to retain their core group of players, as all teams have a purse of ā¹90-crore budget only.
