Sunrisers Hyderabad have roped in West Indies batting great Brian Lara as their batting coach for the upcoming season of IPL 2022. This is the second biggest signing by the Hyderabad franchise after roping in former South African speedster Dale Steyn as their bowling coach.
This will be Lara’s first major stint as a batting coach, who has over 20000 international runs and is arguably considered as the best left-handed batter to grace the game.
Meanwhile, Tom Moody has returned as the head coach of the franchise for the second term. He was at the helm of the side when Hyderabad won the title in 2016 under David Warner’s leadership.

Hemang Badani, who has seen success in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, has been appointed as the fielding coach and scout, while Muttiah Muralitharan will continue as spin bowling coach and strategist. Former Royal Challengers Bangalore head coach Simon Katich has been named the assistant coach.
Meanwhile this season, Sunrisers Hyderabad will also be without its mentor VVS Laxman, who has now taken over as the director of the National Cricket Academy.
Sunrisers Hyderabad retain skipper Kane Williamson
The Sunrisers Hyderabad outfit retained only skipper Kane Williamson, all-rounder Abdul Samad, and rookie fast bowler Umran Malik ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. They had to let go star spinner Rashid Khan after a disagreement over fee expectation.
Hyderabad had a humiliating campaign in the last season, finishing last in the points table. With a star-studded coaching panel, the owners will hope to build a strong squad in IPL 2022 auction and put up a strong performance in the next season.
