Over the years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has provided a platform for youngsters all over the world to showcase their talent and make a name for themselves. The carnival is back with its fifteenth season, which begins on March 26 in Maharashtra.
As is the case, this season too, the focus will be on young and raw talent that the teams have in their arsenal for the upcoming season. We have witnessed the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal, and other young players, stealing the limelight in the Indian Premier League in the last few years. One cricketer from the young performer’s lot is awarded the ‘Emerging Player of the Year’ award every year.
In this article, we take a look at five players who may win the ‘Emerging Player of the Year’ award in IPL 2022.
1. Ravi Bishnoi
The young Indian spinner has been very impressive in his short Indian Premier League career so far. He has earned praise for the cricket pundits’ smart leg-spin bowling. Bishnoi represented Punjab Kings in the IPL for the last two seasons and has a decent experience of playing at this level.
The legspinner was signed by the Lucknow Super Giants during the pre-auction draft round. Having played alongside KL Rahul in the Punjab Kings, Bishnoi will be confident of working under the Lucknow skipper.
So far, he has played in 23 IPL matches, scalping 24 wickets at an economy rate of 6.97. Bishnoi’s deceptive bowling skills might prove to be a valuable asset for the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022.
2. Raj Bawa
After his brilliant performance in the U-19 World Cup 2022 finals against England, Raj Bawa attracted a bidding war at the IPL 2022 auctions. He was signed by Punjab Kings for a whopping 2 crores. Raj Bawa is a powerful striker of the ball, and can also contribute well with the ball.
The all-rounder slammed 217 runs in 4 innings in the U19 World Cup. He also picked 4 wickets in the tournament and was ‘Player of the Match’ in the finals.
Bawa hasn’t played in the Indian Premier League yet but will be keen to make a mark for himself in his debut season for the Punjab Kings.
3. Dewald Brevis
The Mumbai Indians could not hold back themselves at the auctions table, as they wanted Dewald Brevis in their squad at any cost. The young South African cricketer, earned an INR 3 crores and secured a contract from the five-time IPL champions.
Dewald Brevis made a mark for himself during the U19 World Cup this year, which was his flamboyant batting. The fans and pundits were in awe of his batting skills, and nicknamed him “Baby ABD“. Brevis averaged over 80 and was the leading run-score in the U19 World Cup 2022.
4. Chetan Sakariya
Chetan Sakariya made an impressive debut for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League last year. Playing against the Punjab Kings, Sakariya scalped 3 wickets including that of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal.
Further, in the season, Sakariya also took the prized wicket of Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni. Sakariya has the ability to swing the ball in the air and also bowls slower balls, yorkers, and slow bouncers.
The left-arm pacer will be playing for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 and will be keen to contribute consistently.
5. Rajvardhan Hangargekar
The Chennai Super Kings did not hesitate to splurge their purse for Rajvardhan Hangargekar. He was signed by the franchise for INR 1.5 crores. The young cricketer caught everyone’s attention during the U19 World Cup 2022.
Hangargekar bowls at a fast pace and troubles the batters, with his swing bowling. He is also a very capable lower-order batter, who can tonk boundaries at will.
The 19-year old may prove to be a dangerous weapon in the Indian Premier League 2022 season for the Chennai Super Kings.
