Newly-appointed Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal believes they have a nice squad that is capable of winning the IPL 2022 title. They are one of the few franchises who are yet to lift the prestigious title in the history of the competition.
The Punjab franchise handed the reins to Mayank after they parted ways with KL Rahul ahead of the mega auction. They only retained Mayank Agarwal and young fast bowler Arshdeep Singh. They acquired the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow and Odean Smith at the IPL auction.
Mayank Agarwal believes Punjab Kings have a title-winning squad. Speaking to PTI, the Karnataka-born batsman said:
“We like to believe that we do have a title winning squad and now it is upon us as players to execute our skills under pressure and see what we can make out of it.”
He added:
“As a team we have done a good job at the auction. We were looking at few skill sets knowing that the tournament will be played in Mumbai and we have covered those bases. We are happy with the balance we have in the side.”

While Mayank Agarwal is slated to open the batting, the 31-year-old didn’t divulge more on the batting order. However, he asserted that the franchise is excited to have Shikhar Dhawan in their ranks.
“I can’t talk about the batting order as of now but I can definitely say that we are excited to have Shikhar on board. He is an absolute livewire, a great entertainer, a massive performer and a lot of the guys will feed off his energy. He is also in a great mind space,” he concluded.
Punjab Kings will begin their IPL 2022 campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 27.
