Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Obed McCoy stole the show in the 20th over to win the game for his side against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday. With 10 runs to play for, the West Indian gave away only three runs and picked up two wickets to drown the Knight Riders.

The left-arm pacer gave away two runs in the first ball of the over to keep the equation to eight runs needed off the final four balls. In the next delivery, McCoy got Sheldon Jackson and unleashed the trending ‘Pushpa’ step.

It was a slower ball from Obed McCoy that gripped and Jackson pulled it in a clumsy manner to find the hands of the short fine fielder. An inch here and there it would have flown to the boundary easily. The cricketer from the Caribbean was certainly happy with his maiden IPL wicket and celebrated it with the Pushpa step.

Obed McCoy then cleaned up Umesh Yadav on the fourth ball of the over to end the proceedings and guide Rajasthan Royals to an emphatic victory in the high-scoring thriller. The left-arm pacer eventually finished with figures of 2/41 in 3.4 overs.

“Wanted them to target the longer part of the ground” – Obed McCoy

The tall and lanky pacer has a reputation for his death over skills and doing exceptionally well in the Caribbean Premier League. McCoy lived up to the expectations to bring cheers to the Royals camp. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, he said:

“I normally back my skills, but I haven’t played a lot of cricket, so I backed my skills and went about trying to execute the plans, as in a normal scenario. I knew the batter would be looking for power, so I wanted to slow it down and wanted them to target the longer part of the ground. He (Shimron Hetmyer) was just telling me to bowl the way I normally bowl and give my best.”

With this victory, Rajasthan Royal strengthen their position at the top half of the table with eight points in six matches.
