Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh expressed that the Chennai Super Kings did not have a strong enough team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. He also opined that MS Dhoni leading the team would not have made much of a difference.

The Chennai Super Kings have performed disastrously in the Indian Premier League 2022 season. They have been eliminated from the race for the playoff spot of the tournament along with the Mumbai Indians. At the start of the tournament, Ravindra Jadeja was given captaincy duties.

However, after the team failed to do well, he handed back the captaincy to MS Dhoni. The four-time IPL champions are reeling in the bottom two of the points table. They have just eight points from thirteen matches, with an NRR of -0.206.

Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh was asked in a video on Sportskeeda’s Youtube channel if MS Dhoni leading the team from the start would have made any difference. He replied:

“Had Dhoni remained the captain of the team, CSK would benefit indeed, and would have sat at a higher position in the points table, but they still wouldn’t have qualified because they don’t have the team. They don’t have a strong bowling unit. Deepak Chahar, who was a wicket-taking bowler, was injured. Even the batters didn’t play that well.”

Home advantage would have made a difference for CSK – Harbhajan Singh

The league stages of the 15th season of the cash-rich league are played and held in Mumbai, due to the bubble constraints. The teams, apart from the Mumbai Indians have missed the home advantage this season. Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh feels that matches at Chennai would have made a huge difference for the home team.

“It would have made a huge difference. Chennai would have definitely qualified for playoffs even with this team. Because when they play at home, they play differently. Delhi and Mumbai too have been strong in home conditions,” said Harbhajan Singh.
