Speaking of the game, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. Jasprit Bumrah at his best again finished the season with excellent figures of 3 for 25 and a player of the match award. Bumrah and co. restricted DC batters at a score of 159 for seven. Apart from Rishabh Pant’s steady knock, Rovman Powell finished at the top, for DC.
In reply, MI with a sluggish start lost their skipper in the early overs of power play; although the teamwork later aided MI to achieve a victory. To note only a player, it was Tim David again who hit the DC bowlers at a strike rate of 300+. Though the Singaporean hitter could have gotten out on the first ball of his innings, Pant’s decision not to review the on-field umpire’s decision turned the tables around. DC finished at fifth position with 14 points in their account.
“We performed well in the second half of the season” – MI captain Rohit Sharma
Speaking about their win and overall performance, Sharma, the MI skipper stated, “We were here to win the game. I know few teams were watching us closely, but we wanted to finish on a high. We’ll try to correct the mistakes next season. It was tough after losing eight games, so we needed to rectify the mistakes. But I think we performed well in the second half of the season.”
Furthermore, Sharma in his last post-match presentation of the season quoted, “We came to the party a bit too late, but at least we can take a few positives from this tournament. Every time we go into the auction, we keep an eye on the players who will play for us in a couple of cycles. We get a few youngsters who will eventually go on and play for their country. Congrats to them (on RCB), they have qualified, I would like to wish all the four teams all the best. May the best team win.”
More to the point, RCB will face KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the eliminator, on May 25, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
