Wasim Jaffer appointed as batting coach of Bangladesh Cricket Academy

Wasim Jaffer has been one of the most prolific performers in Ranji Trophy history till date. His ability to carry the innings in the middle has made him one of the most dependable cricketers in this era.

Though he hadn”t represented the international side since a decade, his Ranji figures tell us the impact he has made as a batsman and the way his presence motivated the youngsters in his side. The last two years have been a one to remember as he was a part of the winning Vidarbha side. Now, he is all set to take up an International assignment.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has appointed him as a coach in its cricket academy. As a part of this role, he will be involved in sharing his ideas and techniques with the budding cricketers as well as the current set of International players.

It is to be noted that Wasim Jaffer in his recent visit to Bangladesh spent some time with Sowmya Sarkar zero scored a century in the country”s domestic tournament DPL. The batsman had huge praise for the Jaffer as he admitted the fact that his calm and composed attitude guided him to play better on the field.

Wasim Jaffer will spend six months of a year at the academy and more details are expected soon. The 41-year old in his recent interview said  “They had approached me whether I will be interested to come on board as batting coach in their academy. I said yes, as I felt it’s a good opportunity for me. I have said in the past that I want to be part of coaching and commentary in future. I recently went to play Dhaka Premier League where I finalised the offer. I will be going to Dhaka in June. “

Jaffer represented India in 31 tests and 2 ODI games scoring 1960 runs overall. He enjoyed a small stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the initial days of the cash-rich league before turning out to be a star player in the Indian domestic arena. Can this opportunity make Jaffer stand out of the crowd? Only time will tell.
