India and Leicestershire XI faced each other in a four-day warm-up match. This practice match would help India a lot in their preparation for the last Test match against England, starting on July 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Several players of the Indian team played for Leicestershire XI too.
Shubhman Gill came to bat for Leicestershire XI on Sunday. Even though Gill batted for India, he wanted to get extra match practice to get used to the England conditions. Gill played a brilliant knock of 62 runs in 77 balls against India while playing for Leicestershire XI. He hit eight fours and four sixes in his innings.
However, Gill faced an injury scare after he was hit on the forearm by Mohammed Siraj. The ball hit him hard. Gill looked in a lot of pain and laid down on the ground. Physio came to give a treatment of ice packs to Gill. After a few minutes, Shubhman stood up to face the next delivery of Siraj.
Gill gathered the courage and hit the next delivery of Siraj for a six. Siraj tried to bowl a bouncer but Shubhman was quick to react and hit it for a six. It was a great comeback by Gill after getting hit.
Shubhman Gill scored 121 runs in the three innings combined in the warm-up match. He was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin in the final innings.

India’s warm-up match ends in a draw
The warm-up match between India and Leicestershire XI ended up in a draw. The batting form of Virat Kohli was the biggest positive for the Indian team in the match. KS Bharat and Rishabh Pant too played brilliant knocks under pressure. However, Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari failed to make the most of the opportunities given.
Meanwhile, the Indian team faced a setback after the news of Rohit being tested COVID positive came out. BCCI in the tweet wrote, “#TeamIndia Captain Mr Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has called up opener Mayank Agarwal as a stand-by for Rohit Sharma ahead of the Edgbaston Test match. Mayank Agarwal will to England on Monday and join the Indian camp in the evening, stated the Espncricinfo. Notably, he will not have to undergo quarantine, as per the latest government rules. This makes him available immediately to play the fifth Test, if Rohit Sharma does, not recover in time.
