The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for bagging a silver medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 (CWG 2022) in Birmingham, UK. The Women in Blue went down fighting while chasing 162 runs on Sunday night at Edgbaston.
India were in the driver’s seat with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues going strong despite losing the openers cheaply. However, Australia never panicked, not one bit, even when the Jemimah-Harman stand was threatening to take things away.
Megan Schutt gave them the breakthrough, Asleigh Gardner plucked out another couple in the following over, and despite the odd boundary and the fact that the asking rate was always under check, it almost felt like it was only a matter of time before the Aussies blew the Indian tail away from 118/2 to 152 all out.
Reacting to India’s defeat, Sourav Ganguly highlighted that the girls will be disappointed to not close the game. Taking to Twitter, the BCCI President wrote:
“Congratulations to the Indian women’s team for winning silver ..But they will go home disappointed as it was their game tonite ..@BCCIWomen.”

“We did the same mistakes we have been doing in the big tournaments” – Harmanpreet Kaur
Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted that the side did the same mistakes as they have done in the past in big tournaments. Speaking to NDTV, Harmanpreet said:
“Yeah definitely it is a big moment for all of us. First time, we were participating and the way we played this tournament, it was great to watch. We were close to gold medal, but once again we did the same mistakes we have been doing in the big tournaments. You know, we have to keep working hard on lower-order batting. I am sure we will do well in the upcoming tournaments. I think this silver medal matters a lot, this will definitely motivate young girls back home.”
