Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues expressed that speaking to Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant helped her after she was dropped from the Indian team. He revealed that the duo advised her to not take it in a negative way.

Jemimah Rodrigues on Thursday impressed the fans and experts in her comeback match for India. She played a match-winning knock of an unbeaten 36 off just 27 balls, including three boundaries and a six. The Indian women’s team won the match by 34 runs, as Sri Lanka failed to chase down 138.

The 21-year-old was dropped from the Indian team earlier this year after the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. She expressed that during this time, she spoke to Indian men’s team skipper Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, who advised her to stay positive. Jemimah said,

“My journey since the last Sri Lanka tour has not been smooth, it had its ups and downs. I have spoken to Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, they told me these moments will define your career, they told me not to take it (being dropped from the squad before the World Cup) in a negative way. They told me I should take up the challenge and move ahead. I am blessed to have spoken to them.”

Was pumped up to be back in the Indian team: Jemimah Rodrigues

Jemimah Rodrigues expressed that in the last few months, she has understood her game better. She added that she was pumped up to receive a comeback call, and the innings against Sri Lanka meant a lot to her. Jemimah Rodrigues said,

“I have understood my game better in the four-five months, I have become calmer, I have changed, though my height remains the same. I started preparing right after I was dropped.”

“This innings means a lot. I was nervous initially but the late cut boundary helped me a lot in easing things up. I am back in the side after 4-5 months or maybe more than that, was pumped up,” she added.

The second of the three-match T20I series will take place on June 25 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. India is leading the series 1-0, after winning the first match.
