Veteran Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami retired from international cricket after the three-match ODI series against England that ended on Saturday, September 24 at Lords. Goswami has been a part of the Indian women’s cricket team for almost two decades.
Coming from the small town of Chakdaha in West Bengal, Jhulan made her international debut in the year 2022. She holds the record for the highest wicket-taker in ODIs in international cricket. She has over 250 ODI wickets in total to her name.
Jhulan Goswami is also considered one of the fastest bowlers women’s cricket has ever produced. She plays her last international game today against England at Lords. India gave a perfect farewell to the legend as they clinched a historic ODI series win in England after 23 years. She bowed out on a perfect note as the Women in Blue completed a 3-0 win over the hosts. She returned with figures of 2/30 as the tourists won the match by 16 runs.
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur displayed a heartwarming gesture as she called for Jhulan Goswami to call the toss. She was even seen crying while addressing the team huddle talk before the match.
Meanwhile, fans on social media are celebrating her successful career. Wishes are pouring in for the veteran. Here are a few Twitter reactions:

My first memory of Jhulan Goswami coincided with my first memory of the women's game in general – the Afro-Asia Cup 2007. She was probably the first player in the women's sport I had heard of. And the Chakdaha Express went on and on and on over the years without stopping #ENGvIND

“Not winning the World Cup remains my only regret” – Jhulan Goswami
In a pre-match press conference, Jhulan said that she is proud of her international career. Not winning the World Cup remains her only regret. She feels grateful for all the love and support she has received over the years.
“I played two [50-over] World Cup finals, would’ve been great for me, India and women’s cricket if we could’ve won at least one of those. That was the ultimate goal. You prepare so much, put in a lot of hard work. We’ve played two-three World Cup finals, including T20, but weren’t able to win them. That hurt and that’s one regret I have,” she said.Ā
Jhulan Goswami, along with Mithali Raj, has been the pillar of Women’s cricket in India. They are the ones to bring the team into the mainstream. Even to date, when asked about women’s cricketers in India, only these two names appear in people’s minds. The nation will surely miss the services of the great Indian legend. The nation is also thankful for her as she will inspire generations of young girls to take up cricket as a career.
