Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo believes the Caribbean side can gain an advantage from playing the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, as several players are already used to similar conditions. He explained that understanding subcontinental pitches and weather can be crucial in a global tournament. According to Bravo, the players will not need much time to adjust, which could help them start strongly. He suggested that past exposure to Indian conditions gives the team confidence going into the event.
Squad Balance And Key Players
Bravo spoke in detail about the makeup of the West Indies squad, highlighting the blend of experience and youth. He said, “The squad has a lot of power and plenty of experience.” He pointed out that the batting lineup includes dependable and explosive players such as Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell and Brandon King, while Shai Hope will shoulder leadership responsibilities. Talking about the bowling attack, Bravo praised the quality available to the team and singled out Akeal Hosein for special mention.
He said, “Akeal Hosein is one of the best T20 bowlers in the world.” Bravo also highlighted the presence of young fast bowlers who add pace and aggression to the side. Referring to the balance within the group, he said, “There is youth as well as players like Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph. It’s a good mix overall.” He feels this combination allows the team to adapt to different match situations and opponents.
Ipl Experience And World Cup Chances
Bravo underlined the importance of Indian Premier League exposure while assessing West Indies’ chances in the tournament. He explained that many players are already familiar with Indian pitches due to their time in the league. He said, “A lot of the players have played in India through the IPL, and the conditions are quite similar.”
This experience, according to him, could help the team deal better with spin-friendly tracks and slower surfaces. Bravo remained hopeful about the team’s prospects, adding, “Hopefully, that gives them a good chance in the tournament.” Drawing from his own experience of playing and winning major T20 events, Bravo indicated that confidence, preparation and adaptability will be key. Overall, his assessment reflected cautious optimism that West Indies can perform well if they play to their strengths in the T20 World Cup 2026.
