Aakash Chopra holds that in case of a big auction before next IPL season, it will allow other teams to be at par with Mumbai Indians. Presently the 5-time champions are undoubtedly the most powerful side in the competition which reflect in their dominant performances on the field.
In the recently concluded IPL 2020, MI ended the league stage at the top of the table and ultimately won the title in a one-sided final. Now rumours suggest that a mega auction may be conducted before the next IPL season. If this happens it is highly likely that MI might lose out on some of their pivotal players.
Mumbai Indians Will Not Be Able To Retain All Their Key Players- Aakash Chopra
This will probably allow other teams to get stronger which will impact the performance of MI and it will be a level playing field in IPL. Recently popular commentator Aakash Chopra stated that MI will be more than happy if there is no big auction conducted.
“The suggestion for the Mumbai Indians is that they should somehow not allow the big auction to happen. Although they will still be fine if there is a big auction because their planning is absolutely immaculate,” Chopra jokingly said on his YouTube channel.
He continued that the auction will change the scenario and the story might be a little different for the usually dominant MI as they can only retain 5-6 players. The former cricketer also warned that other teams will have a larger pool of players to choose from in the mega auction which will make them stronger.
“But if the big auction happens, other than the 5-6 players they will be able to retain, there will be few changes for sure. They will not be able to retain everyone as they have so many good players and someone or the other will have to go”, Chopra added.
“So once the scenario changes, the story might change a little. So this team might be saying not to have the big auction and to have it after another three years and that their team is set”.

“On a serious note, of course, they don’t decide if a big auction happens or not. If it happens, it will just mix up the things a little and the other teams might come somewhat on par with them,” Chopra said.
Meanwhile, it is fair to say that MI is a notch above every side in the IPL. Since 2013 they have dominated the biggest T20 league as they have some of the best T20 players in the ranks. Plus the brilliant leadership of Rohit Sharma make MI a grand T20 side. Chopra also deems that presently there is a vast difference in the level of MI and 7 other teams in IPL.
“At the moment, it is not even a level playing field it seems as there is a vast difference in the level of the Mumbai Indians and the rest of the teams. So, I would expect more of the same from the Mumbai Indians in 2021, nothing different”, Chopra concluded.
